Community
Development: participating in real world, hands-on
projects that foster respect and compassion for all living things, to
promote understanding of all cultures and beliefs, and to inspire each
individual to take action to make the world a better place for the
environment, animals, and the human community.
Sustainable
Development: a harmonious integration of
landscape and people, providing food, energy, shelter and other needs in
a sustainable way for ALL species. As a sustainable community we will
utilize our property (7acres) for the conscious, holistic design and
maintenance of biologically productive ecosystems, in which children and
adults will learn experientially from the stability, balance, and
resilience of natural
ecosystems.
RMCLE's Ecological Education includes Community Development, Sustainable Development, Global Learning to the Benefit of the Environment (GLOBE) and The Private Eye.
Instructor: Schelly Corry
GLOBE is a worldwide hands-on, primary and secondary school-based science and education program. Our students will work in conjunction with NASA and NSF Earth System Science Projects in study and research about the dynamics of the Earth's environment. They will take scientifically valid measurements of the atmosphere, water, soil, and land cover. This information will then be shared with other students in the network providing a unique educational experience for all of us.
The Private Eye is another hands-on investigative learning program for ages 5-16. This class assists students in developing higher order thinking skills, creativity, and scientific literacy. The focus is to teach children how to think not what to think by building communication, problem solving and concentration skills while working with everyday objects. Through this work, The Private Eye accelerates science, writing, art, math, and more.
