Enrolling Your Child
at Robert Muller School
"The
Community's main focus is collective modeling of a gestalt of healthy
pursuits, establishing right human relations, and consciously contributing
to a universal culture.
The new era school is not just a place to send the children for academic
study, but a cultural center of conscientious role models and mentors"
Vicki Johnston (Excerpt from Education For True Culture)
As part of the process of becoming a true Community School, we are formalizing
our mentoring program this year. For our learning community to benefit
the most from this program, we need active involvement from parents,
grandparents, and the surrounding community. From study of other successful
community schools, we are more aware of how much impact adult involvement
can have on the optimal education of our children. Each one of us has
unique skills and talents to share with our children. This is a great
way to get involved!
Community Service and Volunteer Commitments
The
Robert Muller School is able to maintain affordable tuition by organizing
as a community. Minimally, two hours of monthly school service is required
per child you've enrolled in the school. There is a wide range of services
you may offer.
Monthly community meetings
provide a forum for you to bring your energy and ideas to help benefit
the school. These meetings are run by community members and include
discussions on improving our community. Meetings will be held on the
second Thursday of each month. Please see our calendar for specific
dates and meeting notes.
Each month, one Saturday
will be designated as a Community Project Day. Each family is asked
to commit to one Saturday per year to help complete Community Projects
at the school.
Please be aware that
when you make a commitment to provide volunteer service at the school,
the teachers and children are depending on you to be there. For the
school to be most successful, it is critical that you honor your volunteer
commitment time and responsibly follow through with your commitments.
Following are some ideas for ways you can participate in our learning
In-class projects (individual crafts, presentations, science
experiments, etc)
Mentoring (regular, on-going sharing of specialized skills with
one or more students)
Maintenance of school (grounds, garden work, animal care)
Teacher assistance (bringing snacks, cleaning, making copies,
arranging field trips)
School celebrations (food and activity coordination)
Parent/Teacher group and its special committees (marketing, fund-raising,
etc)
If you are unable to volunteer or participate in the community, you
may also contact our office for information regarding school capital
needs, supplies, equipment or simply request to make a private donation.
